Learning Opportunities
Improve your future...
Learn to read and understand words and numbers more easily, enjoy reading books and magazines, be able to use a computer with confidence or gain skills to help in finding a job or improve your earning potential.
Whatever your reasons for wanting to learn something new or refresh your current skills, Glasgow YWCA offers classes for all abilities and interests in a welcoming and supportive environment. You could improve your literacy or numeracy skills, build your self confidence, enjoy relaxation, singing or arts & crafts, improve your English or computing skills.
This time next year you could be surfing the internet, shopping online and enjoying reading to your children or helping with their homework. Perhaps you will have started a new job or taken up a new hobby and made new friends. The choice is yours, as you set your own personal goals and, with support, develop your own individual learning plan to acheive them.
Classes on offer include:
Communication Skills
Improving communication skills through various classes in adult literacy and numeracy, and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), supporting all levels of ability.
Computing Skills
Computing courses range from basic computer skills for beginners, through to European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) - a certificated course for more experienced users.
Personal Development
Personal development and confidence building can be achieved through courses such as arts & crafts, exercise and dance, assertiveness, child development, and health & relaxation.
Family Learning
Learning for all the family supports the development of families and is an opportunity for people to meet others in similar circumstances. Courses include healthy cooking, storytelling and family exercise.
Getting to know Glasgow
We also offer support to women who are new to Glasgow, those from ethnic minorities, other regions and countries including refugees and
asylum seekers. There are several courses available to help develop English language skills as well as advice to relate this to the local setting, making it easier to settle into the Glasgow community. These courses include learning about Scottish culture and language, including understanding slang, as well as trips to places of interest and support in preparation for applying for citizenship.
